Happy New Year!
2016 sure gave us a lot to think and talk about, and envoked the feeling of many, many emotions. This was also the year I restarted my YouTube channel and starting giving this blog a little loving, moved in with my partner (my only photographer), and really dedicated time to my brand and myself.
The hot topic this time of year is change, usually under the guise of “resolutions.” Most of these resolutions involve losing weight or some focus on diet and exercise. Time is an illusion and you can make a change any day of the year, but most people like to slide through the holidays “guilt free” (🤢) knowing that they will suffer plenty of restriction come January 1.
I’m taking it upon myself, and challenging you as well, to skip the diet-focused resolution. Statistically, diets don’t ever pan out the way you want them to. Why not accrue a different positive habit instead of setting yourself up for failure with virtually impossible goals?
Here are a few non-diet resolutions that are good for you in one way or another.
1. Get outside
For those of us able to do so, going for a daily walk is great for both physical and mental well-being. This encourages time for mindfulness and can be enjoyed alone or with company. This is my personal resolution for the year and so far I’ve stuck to it pretty well. If you choose this resolution, be open to different kinds of walking! For example, mall walking is a great alternative when the weather is a bit extreme.
2. Wear Sunscreen
Your face really needs your help. It needs protected. Even on cloudy days, it needs protected. Even when you’re inside all day, protected. Please wear sunscreen. It comes in lotions, moisturizers, BB creams, foundations and more! Easy and do-able resolution.
3. Stop being uncomfortable
Stop buying clothes that are too tight or uncomfortable. Go through your closet and get rid of anything that doesn’t make you feel great and lovely and the perfect size. Even those things you think you might fit into one day…get rid of them. Forget if they are brand new. Give them to your smaller friends! Just get them out and stop buying them!
These are all great non-diet resolutions. For more you can watch my video all about resolutions and with 9 more promises to yourself you might be able to ACTUALLY keep!
